🏆 Liverpool win their season opener
The game at Portman Road just ended and it was a great game as Liverpool beat Ipswich Town 2-0. Ipswich were dazzling in their first Premier League game since 2002 but Liverpool’s class was ultimately too much for them.
The action started quickly. Hutchinson almost made the headlines early on, but Quansah thwarted his efforts. The game kept me on my toes, especially with Ipswich narrowly making and narrowly missing. Then, midway through the second half, the game took a decisive turn.
Diogo Jota broke the deadlock on 60 minutes, finishing off a clever move coordinated by Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mo Salah. Just five minutes later, Salah himself went from provider to scorer, sealing the deal for Liverpool and making it a memorable day. He wasn’t just making numbers, he was rewriting the record books. His ninth goal in the opening game was a new Premier League record.
But it wasn’t all smooth sailing. Liverpool looked a little out of sync in the first half, and Jota missed a sitter just before the goal. But they did succeed at the crucial moment. Ipswich, who had a moment of encouragement from celebrity fan Ed Sheeran in the stands, failed to capitalise.
Now let’s talk about Mo Salah. He’s a machine. Today he scored his 300th direct goal for Les. That’s a great achievement for his 350th appearance. That’s a real milestone!
Overall, it’s a promising start for the Reds as they enter the new Slot era. For Ipswich, it’s back to square one, but there’s plenty of season left to turn things around.
