Rare has posted new Everwild art for the first time in nearly three years, potentially hinting at a boost to the game’s pre-release marketing in 2025.
Rare announced the new IP in November 2019 and released another trailer in July 2020, but there have been few updates to the game since then.
But fans finally got another glimpse of the game this week via Rare’s Instagram Christmas card featuring festive-themed Everwild art.
A VGC source with knowledge of Everwild’s development in 2021 claimed that the game’s design has essentially “started from scratch,” meaning it will likely be several years before release.
At the time, VGC’s sources claimed that Everwild’s development team was “optimistically” targeting a 2024 release for the game. This will mark 10 years of development for Everwild, which has spent several years building experimental prototypes (obviously this target date has since been pushed back).
In response to an advance copy of our story, Everwild executive producer Louise O’Connor confirmed elements of the report, including naming designer Gregg Mayles as the new creative director.
Xbox’s then-president of Game Studios, Matt Booty, later said that Rare’s Everwild team wanted to make sure they had “something special” before re-releasing the game.
