The PlayStation 30th anniversary logo may include an image of the yet-to-be-announced PlayStation 5 Pro.
Last week, Dealabs user billbil-kun, a longtime leaker of upcoming games and hardware, shared some information about the new console.
They said an official announcement would be made in the first half of September and that it would be “very soon.”
They also claimed to have access to the PS5 Pro packaging design, but since they can’t share copyrighted images, they drew design sketches instead.
According to the sketches, the main difference between the PS5 Pro and the original PS5 model is the addition of three black stripes down the center of the console.
Now, it looks like Sony has confirmed the leak by accidentally including images of the same ‘PS5 Pro’ design in its PlayStation 30th anniversary announcement earlier today.
The logo features an unknown console, right in the center (between the PS logo and the ’30’), which looks like a PS5 but has a line drawn through the center.
A standard PS5 Slim is also included in the image, so it’s less likely that this is a special edition of that console, and more likely a completely separate piece of hardware.
According to a report from Billbil-kun last week, the PS5 Pro appears to be slightly thicker than the PS5 Slim, but the design of its faceplate suggests it could potentially be compatible with the existing PS5 Slim faceplate.
However, one thing that we can’t confirm yet is whether the PS5 Pro will have a disc drive, as the images they received showed a PS5 Pro without a disc drive.
So it’s unclear whether the PS5 Pro will come in two models, one with a disc drive and one without, or whether it will only be a digital-only edition with the option for players to purchase a disc drive separately (like the digital-only PS5 Slim).
One theory, posed by billbil-kun, is that the console may not have a disc drive to keep costs down.
