Shortly after Grinding Gear Games debuted an early access release for the upcoming Path of Exile 2, the game has now become available for early access on Steam as well. Players were happy and started buying the game. This makes sense, as Path of Exile 2’s showcase was truly jaw-dropping and planned to push the ARPG genre forward by a mile. However, there are still players who wait until the last minute to purchase the game. These players have no fear of missing out. But now they feel like they missed out.
Path of Exile 2 Price Increase Explained
Technically they didn’t actually increase the price of Path of Exile 2. Because of Steam’s regional pricing, it only seemed that way to the majority of its player base. Steam’s regional pricing approach makes games more affordable for countries with weaker economies or currencies. This is one of the main reasons why most consumers love Steam.
However, the price isn’t really up to them, as it’s up to the developer, Grinding Gear Games. When Path of Exile 2 finally released on Steam, it followed regional pricing. In some countries, you can get huge discounts depending on your location.
Some even get early access supporter packs for less than $10 (originally $30). When Path of Exile 2 launched on the Steam store a few days later, the page still displayed regional pricing. On November 24, users were seeing “Error Code 2” when adding PoE2 to their cart.
A few hours later, the game’s fixed prices appeared to have suddenly changed, with the key price points for each supporter pack converted to their local currency. As someone who has been following and supporting the game for almost a decade, I honestly didn’t expect them to follow local pricing, but I was shocked to see it. Some countries on the official Path of Exile website, such as Brazil and Russia, follow specific regional pricing, but most countries use USD pricing.

Is Early Access to Path of Exile 2 worth it?
When Steam’s price tags no longer followed regional prices, many players became hesitant to purchase early access supporter packs because they knew they could get a discounted price and then change the price again. However, this is not true and is unlikely to change. I’m already planning on purchasing the packs just for the points since my account is already eligible for early access keys to several supporter packs I’ve purchased over the years.
I just wanted to get a “discount” as the price has been reduced by more than half in my area. I scoured Steam’s discussion page to see what other players had to say about what happened. It seems like thousands of players complained when this happened. Because I felt really bad. You’re missing out on big discounts on things you want to buy.
Most players, especially if they are in the US, will not be aware of this issue. But barring the current circumstances, Path of Exile 2 would be worth it. As someone who has followed Path of Exile for almost a decade, I can safely say that Grinding Gear Games will do whatever it takes to release the best game possible, even if it gets off to a bad start.
Players will remember certain leagues that the public wasn’t very fond of, such as Lake of Kalandra. However, the developers have a history of listening to their player base and pushing for improvements right away. They love experimenting with innovative ideas, and that requires them to try new things that aren’t fully fleshed out, making their games truly “early access.” Knowing that the developers have always been striving for new heights, you can expect this game to be worth it for years to come.
Players can opt out and wait for the full release since it will be a free-to-play game after all. However, because the game’s learning curve is so steep, it’s best to get in early along with everyone else in the upcoming Early Access.
