Both were hit in the head while chasing a high ball on the 16th inning of the first inning and fell to the grass at Optus Stadium.
Sams showed immediate signs of concussion and had to be transported with the players frantically calling paramedics after the incident.
Thankfully, he was seen moving and Bancroft, with some help, walked away with his nose held and covered under his own power.
The game resumed about 12 minutes later with the Scorchers 4-138.
“It was a terrible collision,” Mel Jones said on Fox Cricket commentary.
“There is a concern here.
“Both players were committed to the ball and had their eyes on the ball. Neither saw the other coming.
“This is something you don’t want to see.
“Medical staff will arrive immediately. My biggest concern concerns Daniel Sams.
“It’s a good sign that Cam Bancroft is actually walking off the ground.
“It looks like there was some damage to your nose.
“It was really courageous. They both had their eyes on the ball.”
The Scorchers eventually posted a total of 4-177, led by Cooper Connolly (43* from 31) and Finn Allen (68 from 31).
The Thunder were able to make two concussion replacements by sending two players to the hospital due to concerns about fractures. Both players were awake and talking.
Australia Under-19 captain Hugh Weibgen and Ollie Davies, who was in the team hotel after missing the game due to illness, played.
