A PCB press release on Sunday said, “We have been guided by construction experts on the preparation schedule for (the Karachi National Stadium). They have advised that construction can continue during match hours but the resulting noise pollution will disturb the cricketers. Also, dust from the construction work may affect the health and well-being of players, umpires, broadcasters and media.
“Considering that construction must continue uninterrupted to ensure that the stadium is operationally ready for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, the PCB has decided to hold both the Tests in Rawalpindi after consulting all stakeholders and examining the operational and logistical issues.”
Karachi is set to host England when they visit in two months. The PCB said on the subject, “At this stage, we do not wish to speculate on the hosting of the second Test match in Karachi from October 15-19 and will keep the England and Wales Cricket Board updated and work closely with architects and construction experts to ensure a safe and secure venue for the match.”
The PCB wanted to split all these matches between three stadiums – Rawalpindi, Karachi and Multan. The upgrade of Lahore has left the Gaddafi Stadium out of competition for home-season matches until early next year. The PCB was reportedly initially against playing Bangladesh Tests in Karachi due to logistical issues.
