The PCB has announced the dates and schedule for the entire home season, including the Champions Trophy. However, it has only released a draft schedule for the Champions Trophy, which is expected to be held from February 19 to March 9 next year.
Pakistan’s home season begins with two Tests against Bangladesh, one each in Rawalpindi and Karachi, from August 21 to September 3. Pakistan traditionally does not play home international matches in August due to the heat and humidity. It is also the middle of the monsoon season, making cricket more susceptible to weather disruption. Pakistan have only played two Test matches at home in August in their history, the last being against Bangladesh in 2003.
After the Bangladesh tour, England will play three Test matches in Multan, Karachi and Rawalpindi from October 7 to 28.
The South Africa tour begins with a T20I series starting on December 10 and concludes with two Test matches in Centurion from December 26 and Cape Town from January 7.
After the West Indies Test, Pakistan will also host a three-part ODI series, with South Africa and New Zealand as the visiting teams. It will be played from February 8-14 and will consist of four matches, all at Multan.
Lahore, where the PCB is headquartered, will not host a single match in any format until the Champions Trophy is held as the Gaddafi Stadium is being redeveloped. The PCB has said it is confident that the stadium will be ready for the Champions Trophy, Pakistan’s first ICC event in 29 years.
However, it is yet to be seen whether India, the only Champions Trophy team not to have travelled to Pakistan since international cricket resumed in 2015, will make the trip.
