Pakistan national cricket team has officially been eliminated from the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024. This comes after the match between the United States and Ireland, scheduled to be played on Friday (June 14), was washed out due to rain.
Pakistan’s fate in the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup depended on the result between USA and Ireland. Had the Irish team won the game, they would have retained the Babar Azam-led side in the tournament. Because we needed to win the game against Ireland.
However, with the match between the United States and Ireland being scrapped, this means Monak Patel’s side have qualified for the Super 8 stage of the tournament. Now they have five points and since Pakistan has already lost two games, the maximum they can get is four.
Pakistan has performed extremely poorly in the ongoing 2024 T20 World Cup. Entering the tournament, they seemed to be one of the favorites to win the tournament as many experts supported them to win the tournament. But now all hopes have been dashed.
Pakistan started the tournament poorly, losing to the United States (USA) in the biggest upset in the game’s history. They batted and bowled poorly but had a chance to win the game by moving to the Super Over. However, they failed to win and suffered a disappointing defeat.
Pakistan then played against India, and the way they started the match looked like they would win. They bundled India out for just 119 runs and then cruised through the chase, needing 47 runs off 47 balls, but lost the match from there.
Two losses in two games diminished their chances, and a win against Canada wasn’t enough. The United States, on the other hand, advanced to the Super 8 stage of the tournament by beating Pakistan with two wins by good margins.
They are eliminated because Pakistan lost to USA – Wasim Jaffer
After Pakistan were eliminated from the 2024 T20 World Cup, Wasim Jaffer posted a tweet claiming that they were not eliminated due to the crushing loss between USA and Ireland. However, it was because they lost to the United States. He said:
“Contrary to popular belief, Pakistan were not eliminated from USA v IRE due to rain. They were eliminated because they lost to USA. :)”

Michael Vaughan also commented on Pakistan’s exit from the 2024 T20 World Cup and said they are still a long way from being a good white-ball team. He tweeted:
“From America to Super 8… Cricket will catch up with America… !! Pakistan are eliminated… Right now they are still a long way from being a good white-ball team.”
