Jordan Love and the Green Bay Packers put the San Francisco 49ers on the brink of elimination in an NFC divisional round matchup last season, but were unable to get a deal done. Now, when these two teams face off on Sunday (4:25 PM ET on FOX and the FOX Sports app), Tom Brady is on the phone and ready to win.
“I think we’re going to finish the season, go to the playoffs, and get eliminated by the 49ers (whoever they are),” Love said Wednesday, according to ESPN. “That’s the whole offseason, just sitting there and watching the games and trying to figure out what we could have done better in those games and what we could have done differently.
“It definitely stays with you during the offseason and then you obviously move on. Just knowing that team knocked us out, we’re definitely hungry for this game.”
In last season’s playoff loss at San Francisco, Green Bay took a 21-17 lead with 6:18 left in the fourth quarter before the 49ers went on a 12-play touchdown drive. Four plays later, Love was intercepted and the 49ers took a knee to end the game.
Moreover, the 49ers have had the Packers’ number in recent memory. San Francisco has defeated Green Bay in the playoffs three times in the past five years and five times since the 2012 season. Overall, the 49ers have won eight of their last 12 games (regular season and postseason) against the Packers.
After throwing for 4,159 yards and 32 touchdowns in his first full season with the Packers in 2023, Love underperformed in 2024. He totaled 2,081 passing yards, 16 passing touchdowns, an NFL-best 11 interceptions, a 90.6 passer rating, and completed 62.3% of his passes in eight games. Love missed two starts due to a knee injury.
Tom Brady gave the Packers a last-minute win over the Bears.
Overall, the Packers are averaging 238.2 passing yards (9th in the NFL), 149.9 rushing yards (4th), 388.2 total yards (4th), and 25.0 points per game (8th). Regarding Green Bay’s Week 12 opponent, San Francisco gave up 197.2 passing yards per game (8th), 105.0 rushing yards (8th), 302.2 total yards (6th), and 22.2 points (17th).
The Packers are 7-3 but in third place in the NFC North. Meanwhile, the 49ers are 5-5, good for a three-way tie for second place in the NFC West.
