Apple is committed to protecting your data, and our products and features are built from the ground up with innovative privacy technologies and technologies. Privacy is a fundamental part of our design process, guided by principles that include data minimization, on-device intelligence, transparency and control, and strong security protections that work together to provide users with an incredible experience and peace of mind. It’s designed to protect user privacy and applies to all products and services, including Siri, our most personal digital assistant.
Apple has never used Siri data to create marketing profiles, never disclosed it for advertising purposes, and never sold it to anyone for any purpose. We’re constantly developing technology to make Siri more private, and we’ll continue to do so.
Here’s how Siri protects your data:
Siri uses on-device processing when possible.
To protect your privacy, Siri is designed to do as much processing as possible directly on your device, allowing you to deliver a personalized experience without your personal information being transmitted to and analyzed on Apple servers. When a user speaks or types to Siri, that request is processed on the device whenever possible. For example, when a user asks Siri to read unread messages or when Siri provides suggestions through widgets and Siri Search, the processing takes place on the user’s device. The content of your message is not sent to Apple servers because it is not necessary to fulfill your request. Additionally, for supported devices, user-requested audio will be processed entirely on the device using the Neural Engine, unless the user chooses to share it with Apple.1
Apple minimizes the amount of data collected for Siri requests.
Apple tries to do as much as possible on its devices, but certain features require real-time input from Apple servers. In such cases, Siri uses as little data as possible to provide accurate results. Siri searches and requests are not associated with your Apple account. Random identifiers, long strings of letters and numbers associated with a single device, are used to track data while it is being processed rather than linking the user’s identity to an Apple account or phone number. It is unique among digital assistants in use today.
Groundbreaking privacy protection through private cloud computing
With the capabilities provided by Apple Intelligence, we are entering a new era for Siri. It gives users the power to get things done easily with built-in intelligence features that make Siri more capable, personal, and useful every day.
Designed to protect your privacy at every step, many models that support Apple Intelligence run entirely on the device. For Apple Intelligence requests that require access to larger models, Private Cloud Compute extends the privacy and security of iPhone to the cloud to deliver more intelligence. When Siri uses private cloud computing, your data is not stored or accessible by Apple, and private cloud computing uses that data only to fulfill your requests.
