Representative Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) argued Monday that Democrats attending Trump’s inauguration are sending the “wrong message.”
Omar joined CNN’s “The Source” on Thursday evening, where host Kaitlan Collins asked her about the number of Democrats who attended Trump’s swearing-in event instead of skipping it.
“I think there have been some exceptions of some people who could have been there for that purpose, but many people who really had no reason to be there gave me a reason to be there. “You sent the wrong message,” Omar sends.
Collins questioned what that message was.
Omar, a progressive Democrat, responded that Trump is a threat to democracy. In his first week in office, the president has proven that he will dismantle democracy through various executive orders.
The Minnesota Democrat said Democrats who attended the inauguration will “sit here and congratulate him and pat him on the back.”
“This is not a good message,” she said.
Collins asked whether former President Obama and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton were included in that Democratic group.
Omar responded, “I don’t understand why they would attend.”
Some Democrats have questioned whether President Biden extended too much kindness to Trump during the administrative transition.
He said, “Welcome home!” When Trump arrived at the White House. Biden also, following tradition, left a “respectful” letter on the resolute desk.
Collins asked Omar about the pleasantries between the two presidents, who have not exchanged kind words on the campaign trail in the past.
“President Biden has always been a true American, a patriot, and I think the fact that he has not had a peaceful transition and it has been difficult for him, he wanted to show and remind the American people how to do it. Omar said.
