Longtime Democratic strategist James Carville on Sunday criticized former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley for endorsing former President Donald Trump.
“I don’t know if she’s spineless or she’s gutless, but she definitely has one or the other,” Carville said on MSNBC’s “Inside with Jen Psaki.”
The former UN ambassador was a vocal Trump critic during the campaign before dropping out of the 2024 race and later endorsing Trump. Appearing on CBS’ “Face the Nation,” she said, “There’s no question about it,” when asked whether she would support the Republican nominee over Vice President Kamala Harris.
“I saw Nikki Haley on the other show this morning. Oh my gosh,” Cavill said, adding that she had talked about “how much she loves Taiwan,” despite Trump previously suggesting he would not defend Taiwan from China.
He later added: “And she started talking about Afghanistan. Does that woman have no courage? Because if she has courage, it’s not something that stands out to anyone.”
Psaki, who served as White House press secretary under President Joe Biden, told Carville that Haley had “not shown any courage” in recent months.
When asked about Trump’s suggestion that Taiwan should pay the United States for protection from China, Haley said she would be the first to say “that’s not the way it should be done.”
Elsewhere in the CBS interview, Haley focused on “policy” when asked about Trump discussing the sexual assault case of author E. Jean Carroll.
She previously declared Trump unfit to be president again, saying he was “out of his mind” and “worse off” than he was in 2016.
