“I think it’s great to be able to contribute to the New Zealand team,” he said after the third T20I against Sri Lanka. “I’ve been doing little things here and there without any real match-winning contributions for a while. To have that kind of impact on a game and a series is very special and I hope to see more of that happen in the future.”
Duffy has played seven T20Is in 2024, the last two of which came in the home series against Sri Lanka, which New Zealand won 2-1 after Sri Lanka secured a consolation win on Thursday. He took seven wickets in those two wins, earning him the Player of the Series award.
Duffy will now be looking to feature in the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka and hopes to cement his place in New Zealand’s white-ball squad following Southee’s retirement from international cricket.
“In my role, I feel like I’m sitting behind Tim (Southee) for a really long time. I might get a game or two here, but I don’t get the comfort of it at international level, but I get the momentum.” Duffy said.
“So, getting a full series and getting out there and performing and starting to feel a bit more comfortable at home has a huge positive effect mentally. I hope we get more ODI series and I’m hungry for more international cricket.”
