Following Wordle’s continued success, the New York Times outlined the following titles to be included in its gaming catalog: It’s all about math. Digits features games where players add, subtract, multiply, and divide numbers. You can play the beta version online for free right now.
In Digits, players are given a target number that they must match. Players are given six numbers and can add, subtract, multiply and divide them to get as close to their goal as possible. But you don’t have to use all the numbers, so this game will test your math skills as you combine numbers and create the right equations to get as close as possible to the target number.
Players receive a 5-star rating if they match the target number exactly, a 3-star rating if they are within 10 of the target number, and a 1-star rating if they are within 25 of the target number. Currently, players have access to a growing number of five different puzzles. I solved today’s puzzle and found it to be an enjoyable numbers-based game that will appeal to curious people who enjoy puzzle games like Threes or The New York Times titles like Wordle and Spelling Bee.
In an article revealing Digits and detailing the New York Time Games team’s game development process, The Times reported that the team used this free beta version to fix bugs and “the game was coded and the design finalized.” So play Digits as much as you can, as the New York Times may back out of the project if it doesn’t get the response you want.
The beta version of Digits is currently available to play for free on The New York Times Games website.
