Ahead of the shadow drop of Ninja Gaiden 2 Black, a remaster of the 2008 original, Team Ninja and Platinum Games announced Ninja Gaiden 4 during today’s Xbox Developer Direct. This will be the first game in the series in 13 years.
It’s scheduled for release this fall and will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, including Xbox Game Pass.
A direct sequel to 2013’s Ninja Gaiden 3, this new game takes place in a cyberpunk version of Tokyo and features a new protagonist named Yakumo. But fear not, as series icon Ryu Hayabusa returns and may even be playable at certain points.
In fact, the trailer shows Devil May Cry 5’s upcoming demon slayer (or ninja, in this case) taking on the OG before they inevitably team up to kick some ass.
“Fans have been asking us for a new Ninja Gaiden game for a long time,” said Team Ninja honcho Fumihiko Yasuda. “Hisashi Koinuma, President of Koei Tecmo, and Atsushi Inaba, CEO of PlatinumGames, share a close relationship, which led us to explore joint development efforts.”
“PlatinumGames had expertise that we felt was ideal for working on Ninja Gaiden.” Yasuda continued. “With support from Microsoft’s Phil-san, the three companies were able to take the next step in creating an entirely new Ninja Gaiden.”
Team Ninja has named 2025 the ‘Year of the Ninja’ in celebration of the team’s 30th anniversary.
Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound was announced last year and is scheduled for release in 2025.
