It’s been a while since we’ve heard Nicole Kidman talk about her marriage and working with ex-husband Tom Cruise.
The Los Angeles Times ran a retrospective article discussing Nicole and Tom’s marriage and Stanley Kubrick’s final film production. Open your eyes wide.
This film, which celebrates its 25th anniversary this year, is based on a 1926 novel. Dream story Focusing on the topics of marriage and sex. So it was actually quite interesting to see a Hollywood couple play those characters.
In an LA Times interview, Nicole discussed how Stanley “mined” her real-life relationships for inspiration during filming. Surprisingly, this wasn’t the first time Nicole and Tom shared the silver screen.
Nicole and Tom met while filming the 1990 Tony Scott film, Day of Thunder. Tom played a race car driver, and Nicole played his doctor and lover. The real-life ’90s power couple married in December of that year.
In 1992, the two worked together again on Ron Howard’s work. far and away. In the film, they played Irish immigrants trying to make their fortunes during the Cherokee Strip Land Run in 1893.
In 1999, Nicole and Tom starred. Open your eyes wide They divorced two years later, in December 2001.
During shooting Open your eyes wide When Tom and I first started working with Stanley (which famously took almost two years to complete), we worked out of his house and had never been on the Pinewood set.
“We had a house 10 minutes away from home, but we lived in a trailer. Tom and I shared it because Stanley said, ‘You can’t have your own trailer. We can’t afford it,'” she said. “S had a smaller space because he had to manage his stuff. And he played video games. That’s when (Minesweeper) was big. So there was a lot of that.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Nicole discussed whether Stanley was inspired by her marriage to Tom. “I think he was mining it,” Nicole said.
“He had an idea that interested him. He asked a lot of questions. But he had a strong sense of the story he was telling. I remember him saying, ‘Triangles are difficult. You have to be careful when you’re in a triangle.’ Because it can feel like one person is being mobbed. But he knew that, and he knew how to handle us.”

It’s notable that Tom and Nicole’s three films together represent the beginning, middle, and end of their relationship, so it’s refreshing to hear Nicole talk about the experience 25 years later.
