Adding elements adds to the North East experience and identity Diamond believes can be its core attraction.
“Newcastle has a unique personality when it comes to sport,” he said.
“I went to St James’ Park the other day to play football and I really liked the atmosphere of the city. It’s a true sporting city.
“We don’t want investors who come in just for egos. We want people who will build the community – the academy, the community department, the foundation – and fly the flag for the North East.
“Identity can be an attraction, but it’s about how you sell the club and where you can take it.
“We can’t be self-reliant, we need investment, but ultimately the person or organization that comes in will know that we know what we’re doing. That’s really important to us and to them.”
