Diamond said “all options are on the table” regarding a potential investment, whether it is a full club purchase or a minority stake.
However, the Falcons are operating on a much lower budget than the rest of the Premiership clubs – well below the salary cap allowed by the league – and they run a smaller team, so the new money could allow them to be more competitive on the field.
For Diamond, it would be attractive to capitalize on being the rugby union representative for the North East.
“USP will be part of the Premiership and potentially part of the bigger competitions in Europe,” he said.
“It’s a great community club across Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear and Durham.
“It’s a huge area and hundreds of players who have played international rugby come from that area. That in itself is a temptation for anyone who wants to be part of a historic club like Newcastle.”
