Allen suffered a back injury and Milne picked up an ankle problem while training before the team departed for the five-match T20I series.
A strong opening batsman with a T20I strikeout rate of 163.60, Allen will ensure his place in New Zealand’s T20 World Cup squad. Milne, who has had a history plagued by injuries, is not confident the United States and Caribbean teams will advance to the last 15, depending on how many quick bowlers they have available.
“We are saddened by both Finn and Adam who have suffered injuries so close to the start of the tour,” New Zealand coach Gary Stead said. “They have performed strongly for us in the T20 format since the last World Cup.”
“Our support staff and medical network will be working closely with both players over the coming weeks to complete their treatment plans and return to cricket.”
“Zak has had an impressive season for Canterbury, including being the leading wicket-taker in all three competitions,” Stead said. “He has shown impressive skills with the ball, especially in T20 cricket for the Kings. We also know he has the bat and this will be a great opportunity for him to be part of the group.”
New Zealand were already without nine players for the Pakistan tour due to IPL commitments, with Will Young (counties cricket), Tom Latham (father and son) and Tim Southee (strength and conditioning) also unavailable.
The first T20 World Cup squad must be named by May 1, but can be freely amended until May 25.
