The New Orleans Saints have pledged to donate $1 million to relief efforts for victims of the New Year’s Day terrorist attack in the French Quarter.
A man drove a white pickup truck with an ISIS flag at dangerous speeds along Bourbon Street, killing 14 people and injuring dozens more.
The French Quarter is less than 2 miles from Caesars Superdome, where the Saints play their home games.

“Our community has experienced an unimaginable tragedy, and our collective hearts are broken as we mourn the victims and survivors of the New Year’s terrorist attack in New Orleans,” Saints owner Gayle Benson said in a statement. “As a league, our cities and teams compete at the highest level of competition and share fierce rivalries. Our staff and players work tirelessly to achieve their goals and share in wins and losses.
“But through football we unite and arm ourselves against hatred in all its forms. We will conquer terrorism and fear with unwavering determination and purpose rooted in love, compassion and kindness. Our focus will always be on delivering “We are providing support quickly and effectively, and we are grateful for our partnership with the Greater New Orleans Foundation (GNOF) and United Way to ensure these funds reach those who need them most.”

Due to this terrorist attack, the Sugar Bowl game held at Saints Stadium was postponed by one day. The stadium was packed with heightened security, but that didn’t stop fans from packing home anyway.
After the national anthem, shout “USA!” echoed in the crowd. A moment of silence for the victims preceded the national anthem.

The Saints played their final home game of the season on December 29. They will close out the season in Tampa Bay against the Buccaneers.
