ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – New Mexico United extended its lead atop the Western Conference standings with a 1-0 win over Miami FC on Saturday night. Jacobo Reyes was the only goal scorer for the Black & Yellow, who moved four points clear of the playoffs.
The first half was mostly scoreless, with New Mexico dominating possession throughout the first half. New Mexico made a breakthrough in the 45th minute, when Reyes snatched a rebound and fired it into an empty net, beating Miami’s Kadim Ndiaye for their first and only goal of the game.
New Mexico continued to dominate the pace and atmosphere of the game in the second half, creating several great chances in the second half. Ndiaye made several great saves to keep the lead at 1. On the other side of the pitch, United’s backline held firm while Miami threatened at times.
Western Conference leaders New Mexico currently sit 10 points ahead of Sacramento Republic FC, which faces the Charleston Battery on Saturday night.
