Products and technologies are advancing at an unprecedented rate. As an IT professional pursuing a career as a field technician, you will now need to take on multiple roles to adapt to the ever-changing IT environment. The latest Cisco Certified Technician (CCT) program updates meet this growing demand, providing value to candidates and employers.
What was once three products is now streamlined into one comprehensive certification. Cisco Certified Technician (CCT) Field Technician. Read on to learn more about how this new CCT certification addresses current Cisco technologies, convergence of various networking domains, and alignment with the current Cisco product portfolio.
New Certification: CCT Field Technician
The updated CCT Field Technician certification represents a significant change from previous models. It merges CCT Collaboration, CCT Data Center, and CCT Routing and Switching certifications to incorporate updated legacy topics and introduce new Cisco products. With this integration, the program moves from a specialized approach to a more multifaceted approach that reflects the current IT environment.
If you want to build a strong foundation in Cisco hardware and components or enhance your existing role with Cisco hardware replacement procedures and best practices, this is the Cisco certification for you.
New Learning Path: Cisco Device Support for Field Technicians (FLDTEC)
To prepare for the new certification, we created the Cisco Device Support for Field Technicians (FLDTEC) learning path. This streamlined learning path replaces the previous three trainings: Cisco Collaboration Device Support (CLTECH), Cisco Data Center Systems Device Support (DCTECH), and Cisco Routing and Switching Network Device Support (RSTECH).
The FLDTEC learning path offers several benefits:
- Shorten training time: Training has been optimized from 25-29 hours to an intensive 10 hours, covering the most important aspects required for the exam.
- interactive learning: Training includes more interactive items to increase engagement and retention.
- comprehensive scope: In addition to the topics previously provided, this training also covers information about the Unified Computing System (UCS), hardware identification, cabling, configuration backup and restore, and software upgrades/downgrades.
This learning path does not provide continuing education (CE) credits, but you will gain valuable skills needed for exams and work as field technicians.
New Exam: Cisco Device Support for Field Technicians (500-150 FLDTEC) v1.0
The learning path prepares you directly for the new Supporting Cisco Devices for Field Technicians (500-150 FLDTEC) v1.0 exam, which offers several improvements over previous versions.
- Reduced duration: A single exam is now 120 minutes long, shortened from the 90-minute format of the previous three exams.
- more comprehensive: Now includes 100 important items, down from 240 in the previous version.
- Broad topic range: Exam topics expand to include networking fundamentals, day-to-day service tasks and tools, Cisco software, infrastructure and collaboration architecture, hardware replacement, UCS, and data center architecture.
There are no prerequisites for the exam. However, it is a good idea to understand the exam topics before testing. You can learn about this in our learning paths.
Looking into the future
The new CCT Field Technician certification and exam will begin December 12, 2024 through Pearson Vue. Training will be available at Cisco U. starting December 5, 2024.
Current CCT certifications, including Collaboration, Data Center, Routing, and Switching, are being phased out and will no longer be available after February 9, 2025. Existing certification holders can continue to use their current certification until it expires, but must obtain a new certification. We support the Cisco Devices for Field Technicians (500-150 FLDTEC) v1.0 exam for recertification.
