I played Gotham knights on gamepass a few days ago and it is definitely not an Arkham game. For some crazy reason the developers decided to forgo the free-flowing combat of the Arkham games in favor of the old-school fighting game combat system with finishing moves. I know they intended this to be a looter game, but I wish they had focused on single player. The game also has very little focus on stealth. Imagine one of the first missions in the game where you sneak past enemies and you can’t crouch in this game. That mistake, plus the fact that it runs at 30FPS, made me uninstall the game.
If we were to redesign the game, we would focus on single player and allow you to change your character like in GTA5 or Spiderman 2. We would also use the improved system from the Spiderman games and give each hero a variety of suits with different abilities and perks. This would allow for 60FPS and better environment graphics. It’s a shame that some publishers don’t realize the value of a great single player experience. Just look at the success this formula has had on previous Arkham games, insomniac, Santa Monica studio, Sucker punch, Naughty Dog, Rockstar, Bethesda, Larian Studios, CD PR, Square Enix, Capcom, and many others.
