A Nevada political expert predicted that Vice President Harris will narrowly win the Silver State in the 2024 presidential election.
Jon Ralston, CEO and editor of The Nevada Independent, said in a Monday article that the vice president would get 48.5% of the vote in Tuesday’s election, while former President Trump would get 48.2%.
“The key to this election has always been how voters outside the major parties break down as they become the majority in the state,” Ralston said in an article highlighted by Mediaite. “They will make up about 30% of the electorate, and if they lean enough toward Harris, she will win Nevada.”
Ralston said those voters will choose Harris, “and I’ll explain why.” Many people assume that the automatic voter registration plan promoted by Democrats automatically registers people as Republicans catch up with Democrats in voter registration. Independents in the DMV (unless they choose a political party) have failed their party.”
“But I don’t think so. There are many non-partisan Closet Democrats who are intentionally registered as non-partisan by Democratic-affiliated organizations. The machine will know who they are and let them vote,” he continued.
Nevada is a critical swing state that either Harris or Trump will need to capture to secure the White House in the 2024 election.
Harris currently trails former Trump by 1.7 points in The Hill/Decision Desk HQ’s Nevada poll, with the former president receiving 49.2% support and the vice president receiving 47.5% support.
“It’s always been competitive in Nevada,” Silver State Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto, a Democrat, said in an interview Sunday.
“This is a swing state,” she told CBS News’ Margaret Brennan on “Face the Nation.” “They’re always close. They’re always within limits, so it’s important to get out there and talk to voters, and we don’t take anyone for granted.”
