A new television deal announced in November includes two new partners competing in five races each, giving the sport an opportunity to follow the rest of the sport through its season’s tournaments.
NASCAR announced Monday that it will move forward with this concept during the 18th through 22nd points races of the regular season, which will air on TNT, with drivers competing as usual as well as as part of a 32-driver bracket.
The winner will receive $1 million.
“The idea of an in-season tournament has been discussed within the NASCAR industry and we are very excited about the opportunity (here) as we begin to focus on adding promotional elements to generate interest throughout the season,” said Brian, NASCAR Senior Vice President. Hearst.
The 32 drivers will be selected through races 15 through 17 of the regular season. Seeding is determined based on the best finish in each race over three races, with a tiebreaker based on the next-best finish, followed by the season points standings.
NASCAR has not announced a schedule for 2025, but Atlanta is the most likely track to host the tournament.
NASCAR’s new television deal, effective in 2025, includes the first 12 races plus the preseason Clash and All-Star Races broadcast by FOX Sports, the next five on Amazon Prime, the next five on TNT and the final 14 on NBC Sports.
