His family shared the news on social media Thursday.
“It is with deep regret that we and his family announce the death of artist and artist David Lynch,” the post reads. “I would appreciate some privacy this time. There is a huge hole in the world because he is no longer with us. But as he said, ‘Pay attention to the donut, not the hole.’ “It’s a beautiful day with golden sunlight and blue skies throughout.”

The cause and location of death were not immediately available, but Lynch was open about emphysema.

A native of Missoula, Montana, Lynch moved frequently with his family as a child and felt most at home away from the classroom for long periods of time, free to explore his fascination with the world.
He had an early talent for the visual arts and a passion for travel and discovery, so he enrolled at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and began a ten-year apprenticeship as a short film maker.
