Wall Street and corporate America aren’t exactly known for embracing uncertainty. That trait may have come into play on Friday, when more than 90 business leaders announced their support for Kamala Harris for president, saying the vice president would “continue to pursue fair and predictable policies that support the rule of law, stability, and a sound business environment.”
A Democratic victory is “the best way to support the continued strength, security and credibility of our democracy and economy,” a group of current and former business leaders, including a former professional basketball player, said in a joint statement endorsing the Democratic presidential nominee Friday.
Among those who signed the letter, which was released to CBS News, were billionaires Mark Cuban, Irvin “Magic” Johnson and former 21st Century Fox CEO James Murdoch. Laurene Powell Jobs, widow of former Apple CEO Steve Jobs and president of the Emerson Collective, also supported Harris, as did former executives of American Express, Merck, Starbucks and Yahoo.
CNBC first reported the letter endorsing Harris.
Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump also has the support of several prominent businessmen and investors, including Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, Cantor Fitzgerald CEO Howard Lutnick, billionaire hedge fund manager Bill Ackman, casino mogul Steve Wynn, and venture capitalist Marc Andreessen.
We support the election of Kamala Harris as President of the United States.
Her election is the best way to support the continued strength, security, and reliability of our democracy and economy. With Kamala Harris in the White House, business can be confident that there will be a President who wants American industry to thrive. As President Biden’s partner, Vice President Harris has a strong record of promoting corporate investment in the United States and advancing measures to ensure that American companies can compete and win in the global marketplace. She will continue to pursue fair and predictable policies that support the rule of law, stability, and a sound business environment, and will work to provide every American with the opportunity to pursue the American Dream.
