More Americans say they trust former President Trump than President Biden on the economy and inflation, a new poll shows.
According to an ABC News/Ipsos poll, the issues Americans consider most important in this presidential election are the economy and inflation, with more Americans saying they trust Trump than Biden on these issues. 88% of Americans surveyed said the economy was important when deciding who to vote for, and 85% said the same about inflation.
46% of Americans who participated in the survey said they trusted Trump on the economy, and 32% said they trusted Biden as well. Another 21% said they do not trust any of the presidential candidates on this issue.
Forty-four percent of Americans surveyed said they trust Trump to handle inflation, while 30% said the same for Biden. Another 25% said they did not trust either candidate on this issue.
The poll also found that more respondents said they were not well off financially since Biden took office than those who said they had done better under the Biden administration. 43% of those surveyed said their financial situation was not that good since Biden became president, 40% said it was similar, and 16% said it had gotten better.
The poll also surveyed respondents about a hypothetical matchup between Biden and Trump and found that the race between the two front-runners remains fierce.
Among all adults surveyed, Trump received support from 46% and Biden from 44%, but among registered voters, Biden received support from 46% and Trump from 45%. When broken down by those likely to vote, Biden received 49% support, while Trump had a slight lead with 45%.
The ABC News/Ipsos poll was conducted online April 25-30 among 2,260 adults and has a margin of sampling error of 2 percentage points.
