Mohammed Shami has returned to the Indian cricket team for the 5-T20I series against England starting January 22. The star pacer has been left out of the national team after the 2023 ODI World Cup. Since then, he has nursed injuries and even undergone ankle surgery. Recently, he was ruled out of the India vs Australia Test series after the BCCI concluded that further tests were required due to knee swelling.
Shami has played for Bengal in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy over the past few months.
But there were also some surprises. Rishabh Pant was not selected for the T20I series with Suryakumar Yadav leading India. Dhruv Jurel and Sanju Samson are the two wicket-keepers. The BCCI did not reveal why Pant was ignored.
All-rounder Shivam Dube was also not selected, but India’s new hero Nitish Kumar Reddy was.
Along with Shami, Harshit Rana and Arshdeep Singh are the other pacers in the team. The spin department consists of Varun Chakaravarthy, Ravi Bishnoi and Washington Sundar.
The Indian squad that will participate in the T20I series against England is: Suryakumar Yadav (C), Sanju Samson (C), Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya, Rinku Singh, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Axar Patel (VC), Harshit Rana, Arshdeep Singh, Mohammad Shami, Varun Chakaravarthy, Ravi Bishnoi, W.C. Sundar, Dhruv Jurel Ltd.
