Developer Mojang has revealed that the base version of Minecraft is finally coming to PlayStation 5. It’s currently in the testing phase, but if you own the PlayStation 4 version of the game for PS5, you can join the preview right now.
Minecraft has been playable on PS5 for years, but it’s always been the PS4 version. However, this base version is a new build of Minecraft made specifically for PS5, so it should theoretically perform better on the console.
However, currently the only way to play Minecraft on PlayStation 5 is to purchase the PlayStation 4 version of the game. “Developing a native version of Minecraft for PS5 will allow us to run the game more effectively on PS5 hardware.”
Mojang hasn’t revealed how long the Minecraft PS5 version preview will last, but anyone can participate as long as they own the PS4 version of the game. To access it, while playing on PS5, go to “Settings” in the PS4 version of Minecraft and select “Previews.” This preview includes the new Tricky Trials update, so you can enter the trial room, meet the wind, craft a mace, and more.
Mojang is asking players who find bugs during this preview to report them to the developers and provide feedback more generally.
