President-elect Trump’s next national security adviser argued Monday that the terrorist attack that killed 14 people in New Orleans highlighted the need to quickly confirm numerous Cabinet nominees.
Rep. Mike Waltz (R-Fla.) said on “Fox & Friends” that the New Year’s Day terrorist attack showed how important it is for Trump to have a national security team in place. Candidates to lead the FBI and the Department of Defense.
“It has to be implemented from day one. Because this is a moment of vulnerability and President Trump will project strength because he is the leader. The narrative we project on day one is: The most important thing is to keep our people in place,” Waltz said.

Gabbard and Patel, in particular, are expected to face tough confirmation hearings, especially as Democrats raise questions about their suitability for the roles. Waltz, whose position does not require Senate confirmation, is far from the only Trump ally using the New Orleans attack to push for a speedy confirmation of Trump’s nominee.
