Former first lady Melania Trump said in an interview aired over the weekend that her husband, former President Trump, had known her position on abortion rights “from the day we met.”
In her forthcoming memoir, Melania Trump explains that she passionately supports women’s right to control their own bodies. This is a stark difference from the 2024 Republican presidential candidate’s views on the abortion issue.
“He’s known my position and my beliefs since the day we met, and I believe in individual freedom,” Melania Trump said on Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures.” “I want to decide what I want to do with my body. “I don’t think I want the government involved in my personal business.”
The former first lady’s memoir, ‘Melania’, is scheduled to be published on October 8, exactly four weeks before Election Day.
In the book, she writes that it is “imperative to ensure” that women have autonomy over their preferences for having children. She took to social media to share a similar message.
She argued on Fox News that these views are not new and are not intended to make a big splash as voters head to the polls because they were “written months ago.”
“So that was my belief, that’s my belief, and I wanted it to be authentic, so I wanted to put that in the book,” Melania Trump said.
When host Maria Bartiromo asked how her husband handled the matter, Melania Trump largely dodged the question.
Last week, the former president said he would veto a federal abortion ban if it came across his White House desk. He often refers to Roe v. It touted its application of conservative justice to the Supreme Court, which overturned the Wade decision and ended the constitutional right to abortion.
“He knew my faith, as I said, so we knew it was going to be in the book,” Melania Trump said. “He helped me know who I am and believe what I believe. He lets me be my own person and he respects that, and I respect that just as I let him be his own.”
