Megyn Kelly is being slammed for Taylor Swift’s support of Kamala Harris and Tim Walz.
Former Fox News anchor and The former NBC host turned conservative internet personality had a total meltdown for five minutes on SiriusXM. The Megyn Kelly Show On Taylor’s support for the presidential election.
“Say goodbye to what you sold to the Republican audience, Taylor,” Megyn said. “I hope you enjoyed it while you had it.”
To provide context, on Tuesday Taylor posted a lengthy Instagram post outlining her support for Vice President Harris and her 2024 campaign for Minnesota governor.
Think you’re the biggest Blondie fan? Test your ~reputation~.
Taylor explained, “I’m so inspired and impressed by (Harris’) choice of @timwalz as her running mate, who has been fighting for LGBTQ+ rights, IVF, and women’s rights to their own bodies for decades.”
The “Fortnite” singer made it clear that she was researching the issue, suggesting policies and plans for the country, and especially urging first-time voters to register. Seems like a fair statement from a prominent celebrity, right?
Well, Megyn wasn’t at all happy about the endorsement. To be honest, her reaction was a little concerning.
“It’s okay to criticize Taylor Swift, and it doesn’t matter who’s upset,” Megyn said. “It’s disgusting. If she wants to vote for Harris-Walz, she can do that, but to say she’s doing it because of Tim Walz’s stance on LGBTQ?”
“Fuck you, Taylor Swift. And everyone who wants to see these kids get their body parts chopped off and sterilized before they reach the age of consent, and then run off to their billion-dollar mansions and never think about them again,” she said.
Wait. Megyn’s unsubstantiated rhetoric refers to the claim that Governor Walz signed a bill allowing minors to get gender identity surgery and that the courts have allowed trans children to be taken away (or “kidnapped,” as she puts it) from unsupportive parents.
Wrong! As LGBTQ Nation reported, Gov. Walz will issue a “Trans Sanctuary State” executive order in 2023, designating Minnesota as a safe state for gender-affirming care, protecting providers and families from out-of-state prosecution for gender-affirming care.
Waltz’s support for LGBTQ+ also extends to anti-bullying activism, LGBTQ+ marriage, reading bans, conversion therapy, and other deeply harmful government policies that impact LGBTQ+ citizens.
So why not take a deep breath, check the facts, and take a hard look at the right-wing’s damaging claims?
But Megyn didn’t stop there. Her camera rant also included criticism of Taylor’s boyfriend, Travis Kelce.
“Taylor and her boyfriend Travis Kelce are the epitome of elite snobs,” Megan said. “They both have tons of money. She doesn’t care what happens to these kids, just like he doesn’t care what happens to all the young people who get Pfizer boosters.”
“They’ll sit in their mansions in Rhode Island, California, New York, and travel the world saying, ‘Let them eat cake,’” Megyn continued. “Because they’ll be so wrapped up in their own hypocrisy, so obsessed with the money, the concerts, the football games, that they won’t have time to think about the people who are hurting.”
Look, I’m not Swifty by any means. My favorite album is probably folkloreAnd maybe it’s because it reminds me of the hipster LA neighborhood I live in, but I think Megyn Kelly’s five-minute audition for a new MCU villain and criticizing Taylor’s support is over the top.
By definition, most politicians, especially former President Donald Trump, are wealthy, famous, or otherwise well-known. So if you distrust someone like Taylor solely because of their wealth and status, then everyone else, including Megyn, is excluded from this conversation.
Of course, these calculated outbursts and counter-arguments may stem from a desire for attention or an attempt to revive a career as a correspondent, but for many LGBTQ+ people, this harmful rhetoric threatens our freedom and our very existence and is exhausting.
Maybe we should be more concerned about political candidates who are so obsessed with money, rallies and golf that they don’t think about the people they harm before criticizing pop stars or football players.
