Northampton Saints have announced that head coach Matt Ferguson will leave the club when his contract ends at the end of this season.
Ferguson joined the club in 2018, with much of his work focused on the Saints’ scrum and played a key role in helping the club win their first Premiership title in 10 years last season.
“His influence cannot be underestimated, but we felt now was the right time to make a difference in this space.” Saints director of rugby Phil Dowson told the club website:, external
“This is not a decision taken lightly, but change is part of the positive development of any team and you always see flux within the playing group from season to season. Sometimes these changes may be necessary within the coaching group as well.”
Ferguson begins her spell at Franklins Gardens after playing for England Women’s forwards for three years, helping them reach the final of the 2017 Women’s Rugby World Cup.
“Seven seasons at Saints were the best times of my life,” added Ferguson.
“I have made some great memories here that will last a lifetime. I will continue to give it my all until I leave and wish the squad every success for the season ahead.”
