USA 144 for 6 (Monank 42, Jones 35, Taylor 31, Rishad 2-21, Shoriful 2-29, Mustafizur 2-31) beats. Bangladesh 138 (Shanto 36, Shakib 30, Ali Khan 3-25, Netrabalkar 2-15, Van Schalkwyk 2-21) 6 runs
For Bangladesh, this is a cricketing disaster.
America advances
Shanto and Hridoy, who scored 50 runs in the first game, then added 48 runs for the third wicket. Hridoy and Shanto hit a six each off Harmeet in the 10th over, both hitting the ball relatively straight.
Ali Khan swings it American way
Shakib survived a run-out attempt in the top of the 16th over when the point fielder was unable to hit the stumps as Shakib struggled to reach the striker’s end. He rocked it later in the over by timing two fine fours to Jessy to get him through first point and then tickling the third.
But Bangladesh’s joy did not last long. Jaker Ali fell to van Schalkwyk before Shakib followed him with the next ball. Shakib, batting on 30, got the job done by chopping Ali Khan’s delivery into his stumps and leaving the tail behind. Ali Khan put the United States well and truly on top, trapping Tanzim Hasan lbw for a duck just one ball later.
Ali Khan, the Last Hero
Rishad hit Ali Khan for a bounce four in the 18th over to keep Bangladesh in the hunt, but Netravalkar bowled Shoriful in the second over. Mustafizur took a single off the last ball of the over before getting a bye at the start of the last over. Rishad hit Ali Khan for 4-long-on, but the next ball took an inside edge as Ali Khan attempted to ramp the fast bowler, sparking huge celebrations for the country.
Rishad strikes after good US start
It took Taylor and Monank some time to get going in the first half, but the USA opening pair strung together a few boundaries from the fourth over onwards. Taylor hit Tanzim for two in four overs and then hammered Mustafizur and Shakib for six each in the overs that followed.
But soon after completing the powerplay without any loss, the US lost two big wickets. Rishad floated one to Taylor, who hit it long on the neck of Tanzid Hasan. He made 31 off 28 balls with two sixes and three fours. The next ball, Rishad caught a duck that gave Andries Gous a beautiful leg fracture. He recorded his best T20I figures of 2 for 21 from 4 overs.
Shoriful, Mustafizur joins the party
Monank and Jones added 60 runs for the third wicket but the batting average per over was just 6.42. Jones was more fluent than in previous games, hitting Rishad at six overs, but generally had few big hits.
Bangladesh got their reward in the last four overs after roping out Jones and Monank in just under 10 overs. Mustafizur got rid of Jones on 34 to 35, caught at long-on. Shoriful bowled both Anderson and Monank in the 19th over. And Mustafizur soon had Harmeet for a duck. But as it turned out, the United States had plenty of room on the board.
