A massive leak of Halo content containing development tools, unreleased content, and development builds has leaked online.
The content is said to have originated at Bungie in 1998, when the developers had just released Myth II: Soulblighter and were working on Oni and Halo: Combat Evolved.
The leak, first reported by VISCERAL, contained approximately 90GB of data and was reportedly leaked because 343 Industries hired a group of modders to restore content and data that had been cut from previous games. This is known as the Digsite project, and some people familiar with the project, including one modder who worked on it, have confirmed that the leak is real.
As with all leaks of this nature, download at your own risk and the files can be found on various social media platforms.
As for the current Halo franchise, 343 Industries will be renamed Halo Studios in 2024 and continue to develop the next Halo game. As part of the studio announcementAlong with the name change, the development team announced that the game would be moving to Unreal Engine 5.
“If you really break Halo down, there are two very distinct chapters. Chapter 1 – Address. Chapter 2 – 343 Industries,” said Studio Head Pierre Hintze. “Now we think we have an audience hungry for more. So, as well as improving development efficiency, we’re looking to change the way Halo games are made. So today we begin a new chapter.”
