The official reveal of the long-awaited Nintendo Switch 2 was obviously the focus of today’s trailer, but we also happened to get a glimpse of a single game: Mario Kart. Dare we assume Mario Kart 9?
I dare say we. A quick look at the game we’re running makes it clear that it’s not Mario Kart 8, unless it turns out to be some kind of new DLC pack.
We see Mario and friends racing on what appears to be a brand new desert track, set against the backdrop of Yoshi’s Fast Food Restaurant. The trailer shows 12 racers, as usual for Mario Kart 8, but once the start-finish line appears, there seem to be enough starting grid slots for 24 karts.
The final scene of the game features more than 12 racers competing for first place.
One final detail worth noting is that Donkey Kong looks a little different. The Super Mario Bros. It’s more similar to Movie’s movie.
If this is indeed Mario Kart 9, it will be the first Mario Kart game to be released in over a decade. And considering what was included in the Switch 2 reveal trailer, it seems safe to say that Mario Kart 9 will be the launch game.
