Ruben Amorim has warned Marcus Rashford that he will remain banned until he begins to meet the standards expected of Manchester United players.
Rashford has been left out of the squad for the last three games against Manchester City, Tottenham and Bournemouth.
Amorim revealed in an interview that Rashford had not said he wanted to leave the club but rather his performance in training, and the United manager said he was happy to keep the 27-year-old aside until the matter is resolved. .
When asked about Rashford’s situation, Amorim said, “If I feel it is the right moment, I will change something until then. I will continue to think about what is best for the team.”
“I talk to him every day about performances, not interviews.
“It’s my decision. He wants to play. He’s trying. It’s my decision and only my decision. I’m trying to do things my way and I know I’m going to lose myself if I don’t do that. It’s the only way and I won’t lose myself.”
After back-to-back defeats to Tottenham and Bournemouth, United face Wolves on Boxing Day.
Asked what Rashford should do before considering a return to Molineux, Amorim said: “Be the best he can be.
“If you have big talent, big accomplishments, big responsibility, big involvement, you push it all in this moment. And some people have big responsibilities because they’ve been here a long time. So this is probably one of your lowest moments. So we have to face this moment and be strong. That’s what I want from all the players in the team.”
Amorim’s press conference was filled with questions about Rashford after he was ruled out of the Manchester derby.
But he insists the England forward is not distracted, especially because the players and staff “understand” his position.
“It doesn’t bother me,” said Amorim.
‘Other players don’t. They understand because everyone is there every day during training. This is the key. For the media and others, I have no control over it.
“But I’m really focused and they know my message is very clear. Everyone at Carrington knows what I’m talking about and what I want from Marcus and everyone else, so it’s not a distraction for us. “The media might, but that’s not my concern.”
