Manchester United are reportedly ready to receive a hefty £60m in additional funding that would help ease pressure on the club due to the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules.
It has been repeatedly mentioned during the current transfer window that United cannot afford to spend as freely as they used to due to their urgent need to comply with PSR regulations.
The Red Devils need to sell before they can spend and it was revealed a few weeks ago that their initial budget currently stands at just £35m.
Erik Ten Hag’s side are hoping to strengthen their transfer capabilities by parting ways with a number of stars. So far, the departures of players such as Raphael Varane, Alvaro Fernandes, Anthony Martial, Charlie McNeil and Omari Forsson have been confirmed.
It’s unlikely they will be the last. Other players facing uncertain futures at Old Trafford include Casemiro, Victor Lindelof, Harry Maguret, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Christian Eriksen and Anthony.
Last September, United announced a new sponsorship deal with Qualcomm. The Snapdragon brand will appear on the front of the club’s iconic kit, effectively replacing Teamviewer.
The sponsorship deal will take effect from the 2024/25 season, it said.
Terms of the contract were not disclosed, but there was speculation that it was the biggest jersey deal in football.
Football Insider now reports that “Manchester United are set to receive £60m in sponsorship money in July which will ease PSR spending restrictions.”
“United will earn £60m per season through this deal, which is an increase of approximately £12m to £15m over the previous deal with TeamViewer.”
“The first payment of the Snapdragon deal will be included in United’s 2024-25 financial period, providing further financial flexibility for our transfer business over the remainder of the summer transfer window.”
“United’s summer budget is limited by profit and sustainability rules, but improved commercial revenues are set to give the club more financial flexibility.”
Football Insider explained that United want to carry out most of their transfer work in July when the pressure on PSR is less.
