Manchester United’s pre-season friendly has been announced, with the clash with Chester scheduled for Wednesday 24 July.
This match will likely be a warm-up for United’s U21 and U18 teams as it is likely to be played in mixed groups.
It is the second year in a row that United have faced a local side in their pre-season preparations, losing 0-4 in their last match.
The goals came from Shora Shoretyre, Charlie McNeil (2) and Noam Emeran, two of whom have since left the club and Shoretyre’s departure is imminent.
Tickets cost £12 for adults, £10 for concessions, £5 for 18-21 year olds, £3 for 12-17 year olds and free for under 12s when accompanied by an adult, and tickets are on sale now.
Travis Binion is likely to be in charge of the U21s, but his choice of players will largely depend on Erik ten Hag’s decisions about who to include on the first-team tour.
With many of their first-team stars away on international duty during the summer, they are expected to return late in the pre-season, leaving the void open for younger players to make an impression, including five academy stars.
That means Binion’s team will likely be comprised of younger players, giving fans a chance to see a new star for the first time.
This includes a detailed look at new signings like James Overley or potential freshmen like Bendito Mantato or Amir Ibragimov.
Ahead of this season’s EFL Trophy competition, it will be a great experience to compete against quality opposition and get the physical preparation needed for first-team football.
United faced Barnsley, Doncaster Rovers and Huddersfield Town in the EFL Trophy group stage.
More matches are expected to be announced in the youth preseason program in the coming days.
