Manchester United have received very encouraging news after Lille’s chairman confirmed summer transfer targets Lenny Yoro and Jonathan David are set to leave in the upcoming transfer window.
Strengthening the defense and attack departments is seen as a top priority for Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS.
United’s backline struggled last season with defenders missing several games through injury. This prevented the team from achieving consistent form or results. Combine this with the fact that Raphael Varane’s exit was confirmed last month and the likes of Harry Maguire, Jonny Evans and Victor Lindelof all face uncertain futures at Old Trafford, and it makes sense why the club are in the market for central defensive reinforcements.
The Red Devil has been linked to several targets, including the ornate urinary tract.
Last season, the Frenchman made 32 league appearances and helped Lille keep 15 clean sheets as they finished fourth in Ligue 1.
Manchester United are not the only team chasing the 18-year-old. Real Madrid, Chelsea, and Paris Saint-Germain were mentioned as clubs with strong interest in him.
Meanwhile, the striker position is another area where United need to strengthen. Anthony Martial is set to officially part ways with the 20-time English champions at the end of this month when his contract expires on June 30. His departure will leave Rasmus Hoslund as the only recognized senior striker in the ranks.
The 2023/24 campaign has seen Hojlund show glimpses of his outstanding ability and potential, but understandably United are keen to secure some competition for the young Dane. The team also needs depth at the quality level. Here David appears.
David has been mentioned as being on United’s radar at various times over the past few years and this summer is no different. He scored 26 goals in all competitions last season, joint second-highest scorer in the French top-flight.
Yoro and David are particularly attractive options for Manchester United. That’s because both Lille stars are entering the final 12 months of their contracts with the club.
Therefore, you can get them for a discount deal because the reels will be trying desperately not to lose both in one year.
Lille president Olivier Letang announced the appointment of Bruno Genesio as the new manager at a recent press conference and addressed transfer speculation surrounding Yoro and David.
“Leni Yoro and Jonathan David could leave the club this summer,” Letang said of the pair.
“They both have ‘departure vouchers’ due to their contractual situations.”
United need a full visit to Yoro, especially if he can feature at Old Trafford next season. He would be the perfect replacement for Varane and the ideal partner in defense for Lisandro Martinez.
