manchester united forward Marcus Rashford For the first time since announcing his intention to leave the club, he sent a message on social media to spend ‘time with family’ ahead of Christmas.
Rashford, 27, announced last week that he was looking for a ‘new challenge’ after leaving Old Trafford, where he had been for 20 years. The England international has not been included in United’s squad for the last three matches.
The decision to let Rashford go has been attributed to new manager Ruben Amorim, who took over at United last November. But Amorim suggested the player’s representatives may have played a role in making it public that Rashford wanted to leave.
I understand that a lot of people around these kinds of players sometimes make choices that are not their first ideas,” Amorim told Sky Sports. “So I understand that I can separate things.”
Amorim insisted he remains focused on improving Rashford’s performance on the pitch, saying: “I only see what I see on the pitch.”
Rashford is unlikely to play in Manchester United’s Boxing Day match against struggling club Wolves, who are currently 13th in the Premier League. This is because they aim to turn their fortunes around in the second half of this season.
The winter transfer window opens on January 1, giving Rashford the opportunity to come through the youth academy and move on from the club he has represented.
