Manchester United held Aston Villa to a draw in their Premier League match on Sunday, securing a point away at Villa Park.
The result saw United drop to 14th in the table and with eight points from seven games, marking their worst start to the competition in 35 years.
The hosts suffered from United’s pragmatic approach as they were forced to play three games a week. The visitors could have taken all three points but skipper Bruno Fernandes’ effort hit the post.
The Red Devils’ struggles in front of goal continued from last year and with the exception of Marcus Rashford, none of their forwards looked likely to break the deadlock against Unai Emery’s men.
United’s goals aren’t flowing
Amad Diallo, who had little influence on the play in the midweek game against Porto, was benched again, with Erik ten Hag in favor of Alejandro Garnacho on the right flank.
The Argentine has underperformed badly while replacement Antonius is unlikely to perform well at Old Trafford with INEOS keen to move him on.
The 20-time English league champions could upgrade their options on the right flank, with Milan Live claiming AC Milan’s Christian Pulisic is currently a target.
The American has been in incredible form this season, scoring six goals and providing two assists in nine games across all competitions.
In fact, he has shone since moving to Serie A in the summer of 2023, with the US international scoring 15 goals in all competitions last season.
Add in the fact that he is only 26 years old and has significant Premier League experience with Chelsea, and it is clear that he fits the INEOS profile. Even Glazers will be delighted because of his nationality, which could make him a marketing delight.
Reports suggest that United are considering a €55 million offer for the Champions League winner, which the Rossoneri would find difficult to turn down despite Pulisic being their most talented player at the moment.
They brought him from Stamford Bridge to the San Siro for just €20 million, a sale that would be a significant profit and the Italian side will be under pressure not to accept it.
Pulisic opens his eyes
“The sirens of the Premier League seem to have turned on again around the name of Christian Pulisic. Recent rumors suggest that Manchester United are looking for high-profile players to boost the quality within their squad, according to a Liverpool survey.
“A specific lunge for Pulisic is being planned and the amount could be around 55 million euros. “Considering it cost around $20 million to get him from Chelsea last year, this deal would be a really big capital gain.”
One of the former Borussia Dortmund star’s biggest strengths is his versatility, allowing him to play anywhere up front alongside the Milan star, as well as in midfield when needed.
United are reportedly keeping an eye on him back when he was at Chelsea because of this and he could be a decent attacking option if the higher-ups approve the pursuit.
