A MAGA boat parade participant was upset when a CNN correspondent suggested he was wealthy and might not be affected much by economic hardship. (Watch the video below.)
Ellie Reeve interviewed Donald Trump supporters in Panama City, Florida, and shared her insights with Anderson Cooper on Wednesday.
Reeve asked one man what the most important issue in the election was. He said, “The economy.” “Getting interest rates down and making America affordable. It’s too expensive right now.”
Then Reeve nudged him.
“Okay, now let me ask you a slightly rude question. … If you can afford a boat, it won’t hurt that much, right? Boats cost a lot of money and require a lot of maintenance.”
“Listen, nobody gave me anything!” he replied. “I earned everything I have. I’m a retired military man, a retired power plant man, I’m successful and retired with a boat and a jet ski. I did the right thing, and everyone has that opportunity. It’s up to them whether they choose to do it or not.”
Reeve continued: “I’m not trying to take anything away from you in that way, but what I’m asking is, groceries are probably going to take up a smaller portion of your budget than, say, someone who’s a little bit better off. I think it’s interesting that people who are a little bit better off still worry about the economy. You know what I mean?”
“Because I want my money to go further,” the MAGA guy replied. “I want inflation to go down, I want interest rates to go back down. I want all of that, but it involves everyone in the economy. Not just me, not just the poor, not just the rich. It involves everyone.”
Reeve noted that voters are concerned that their children will not be able to afford to buy a house or a car.
The man said that was not the problem.

The Federal Reserve cut interest rates by half a percentage point on Wednesday from a 23-year high to about 4.9%.
“Recent data suggest that economic activity continues to expand at a robust pace,” the Fed said in a statement. “Job gains have slowed, the unemployment rate has risen but remains low, and inflation has advanced further.”
