Ireland winger Mack Hansen is set to face a disciplinary hearing on Wednesday after making critical comments about the referee during a Connacht match following last month’s loss to Leinster.
Hansen said refereeing United Rugby Championship’s 20-12 defeat at the Aviva Stadium on December 21 felt like he was playing against “16 men”.
Connacht boss Pete Wilkins was asked if he agreed with the Ireland wing’s claims, with the 26-year-old chiming in, adding: “Can I talk about the situation very quickly?”
“It’s like we get this every week. We never get a phone call. I’ve felt this way for years.”
Hansen, who has scored 13 tries in 27 games for Ireland, is expected to appear before the URC disciplinary committee.
URC Disciplinary Guidelines, Law 3.3.13 states that misconduct may include “unsportsmanlike or offensive” comments.
Connacht next face Lyon in the European Challenge Cup on Friday and Hansen is expected to be part of Ireland’s Six Nations squad, which starts against England on February 1.
