Luigi Mangione Plan to kill UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson A few months ago…and he’s obviously been thinking about it for longer. Federal prosecutors said so too.
The federal criminal complaint filed Thursday included several diary entries that prosecutors allege Mangione wrote over the past several months, all of which appear to point to Mangione as Thompson’s killer.
The August 15 entry explains that he is “in some ways glad I held off” because it allowed him to learn more about certain names. Prosecutors redacted the company name from the document.
Here’s the kicker… These diary entries indicate that Mangione claims to have staged this murder before August. Hence the use of the word “procrastinate.”
Prosecutors also said that in an Aug. 14 entry, Mangione wrote that “subject is insurance” because it “checks all the boxes.” So it doesn’t seem like Mangione had any particular qualms about the insurance industry, but corporate greed in general… and insurance served his purposes best.
The next diary entry, dated October 22, reads: “1.5 months. This investor meeting is a real windfall… and most importantly, the message speaks for itself.”
About six weeks later, Thompson dying In Manhattan.

Mangione wrote at the meeting that he planned to “pursue” the CEO, according to the federal government. However, Thompson’s name is not listed in the entry.
Additionally, federal prosecutors cited a letter written during Mangione’s arrest that read “‘To the Feds.'” They claim he was working alone, which federal prosecutors claim they can confirm by “confirming this” by checking the serial numbers involved. “It’s all self-funded.”
As we said… federal prosecutors filed the complaint on Thursday. That very day, Luigi guided I returned to New York from Pennsylvania. This fee is Three state murder charges. Manhattan DA pitches to Ivy League graduate.
