Alex Lozowski is set to make a notable return to England as he joins the autumn training camp almost six years since his last game for the national team.
The versatile Saracens back, who made his fifth and most recent appearance in the win over Japan in November 2018, has been selected as part of the 36-man squad preparing for the Autumn Nations Series at the Allianz Stadium in Twickenham.
Joining him is Luke Cowan-Dickie, who is back in the frame after failing to play under manager Steve Borthwick. He last featured for England in November 2022 when Eddie Jones took over.
Speaking of the varied and impressive Premiership performances this season, Borthwick shared his excitement for the upcoming meeting. “After seeing a competitive and high-scoring start to the Premiership season, we are looking forward to seeing the players come together once again.”
He stressed the importance of training camps to prepare for matches against New Zealand, Australia, South Africa and Japan. “We have improved over the last two campaigns.”
Borthwick also praised the breadth of England rugby talent. “The team reflects the depth and quality of English rugby and we look forward to working with the players ahead of a highly competitive series.”
England’s last game was in the summer when they beat Japan but lost narrowly against New Zealand.
This autumn’s camp includes Fin Baxter, Ollie Sleightholme and Tom Roebuck, who made their first appearances on tour last year. Forwards Ollie Chessum, Trevor Davison, Greg Fisilau, Ellis Genge, Tom Pearson and Tom Willis and Cowan-Dickie also received call-ups.
Oscar Beard, Elliot Daly and Jack van Poortvliet joined Lozowski in swapping backs for the summer tour.
Exeter center Henry Slade and Harlequins duo Alex Dombrandt and Luke Northmore will attend the England camp for injury rehabilitation.
England’s starting lineup includes Joe Kokanasiga, Will Muir, Max Ozomo (all Bath), Ben Curry, Tom Curry, George Ford, Rafi Kirke, Bevan Rhodes (all Sale) and Alex Mitchell (Northampton) due to injury. It was announced that they were excluded from the target. The national team is scheduled to gather for training on Monday.
