Liverpool played their first pre-season friendly in the United States under Arnold Slot. Check out the pictures from the night!
After around three weeks of training, the Reds took to the pitch for their first official friendly of the pre-season and won 1-0.
It wasn’t the most comprehensive performance we’ve seen from Liverpool, but it was a promising night in Pittsburgh as the slot-bound side beat Real Betis.
The Akrisure Stadium had 23 players on the field, with Dominik Szoboszlai scoring the only goal of the game.
Slot led the team out for the first time since taking over as manager at the beginning of the summer and was focused and smiling.
In attendance along with more than 40,000 supporters was Fenway Sports Group President Mike Gordon, who has final say on spending and was seen talking to CEO Billy Hogan.
With many of their most important players missing, Slots has assembled the strongest possible squad, which includes Szoboszlai, Mohamed Salah, Curtis Jones, Jarrell Quansa and Harvey Elliott as starters.
Liverpool faced a Real Betis side that featured some familiar faces, most notably recent departure Adrian and former transfer signing and current Spanish club captain Nabil Fekir.
With both teams making slow starts, Curtis Jones was substituted off injured during a 30-minute drinks break and 17-year-old Trey Neoni was brought on.
During the break, Slot was seen going one-on-one with Szoboszlai and his efforts appeared to pay off as the Hungarian scored the only goal of the game just minutes after the restart.
Neoni has stepped up after coming on as a substitute, while Fabio Carvalho, Ben Doak, Sepp van den Berg and Connor Bradley are among those expected to impress.
Carvalho was pictured receiving instructions from new assistant manager John Heitinga, who recently took over after finishing his time as a staff member under David Moyes at West Ham.
Slot looked relaxed as he sat on the bench with his staff. But he will know that it will not be easy once the Premier League season starts.
