For example, Lithuania will maintain a hardline approach toward Russia and a pro-Western foreign policy, and the LDSP has vocally supported an increase in its defense budget.
Blinkevičiūtė, a member of the European Parliament, told reporters that he was hoping to form a coalition with the Democratic Union “For Lithuania” (DSVL) and the Lithuanian Peasant Green Union (LV®S).
But while she previously announced she would quit her parliamentary seat to take on the premiership, she did not give a clear answer to reporters asking her to confirm those plans on Sunday. But DSVL leader Saulius Skvernelis said he was “100 percent” sure Blinkevičiūtė would take over as prime minister.
The polls closed at 8pm Vilnius time and counted votes from 63 constituencies where there has been no clear winner since the first round of elections on 13 October.
Official results showed that LDSP secured 52 out of 141 seats, and TS-LKD secured 28 seats. The nationalist-populist Dawn of Nemunas won 20 seats, DVSL won 14, the Freedom Movement 12 and LV®S 8.
In the first round of voting, approximately 78 members of the National Assembly were elected, and the Social Democratic Party won.
The 141 seats in the Lithuanian parliament, Seimas, are elected through party lists (70 seats) and direct representatives (71 seats).
