Inter Miami CF captain Lionel Messi received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from US President Joe Biden today. Messi was one of 19 great leaders to receive the prestigious award.
The Presidential Medal of Freedom is America’s highest civilian honor, awarded to individuals who have made exemplary contributions to American prosperity, values, security, world peace, or other important social, public, or private endeavors.
The club captain supports medical and education programs for children around the world through the Leo Messi Foundation and serves as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador.
Messi told the White House ahead of the ceremony that he was deeply honored and that it was a tremendous privilege to receive this recognition. However, I was unable to attend due to prior commitments such as overlapping schedules. He said he appreciated the gesture and hoped to have a chance to meet in the near future.
